The Bainbridge Island City Council cancelled its weekly meeting just hours before it was scheduled to begin Wednesday, Jan. 16.

The Bainbridge Island City Council cancelled its weekly meeting just hours before it was scheduled to begin Wednesday, Jan. 16.

The cancelation came after it became apparent that the council would not be able to make the four-member quorum required to conduct the meeting.

Council members Debbi Lester, Kirsten Hytopoulos, Bob Scales and David Ward were all unable to make the meeting.

The city has yet to reschedule the agenda items that were to be tended to Wednesday.

An assessment of the police department was expected to be addressed. The council is eager to mend the wounds the department has suffered after years of a poor relationship with the community, a civl rights case and the loss of its chief and commander.

A discussion on the Point Monroe sand spit was also scheduled. The matter of the spit in relation to the Shoreline Master Program has been a heated issue with some residents who are uncomfortable with the designation of some properties as “nonconforming.”
