The Bainbridge Island City Council has unanimously approved the final design for the makeover of Waterfront Park.

Designs for the updated park have been in the works for nearly two years.

Earlier this year, the city hired consultant company Walker Macy at the cost of nearly $84,000 to complete the Phase 1 design of the project. Walker Macy is a landscape architecture, urban design and planning company based in Portland, Ore. The final design was presented at an open house in early May.

The project includes new benches, a picnic pavilion, stormwater conveyance improvements, concrete paths, a terrace with a lawn petanque/bocce area, improved landscaping and a multi-use trail.

The city will now begin the permit application and bidding process with plans on beginning construction this fall.
