The Bainbridge football team took care of business by blowing out the Bishop Blanchet Braves 48-0 to claim second place in the Metro League Mountain Division, but lost one of their top stars for next week.

Bryan Gilbreath was ejected for drawing two taunting penalties in the second quarter. He will be forced to sit for next week’s game.

The senior co-captain was flagged for taunting when he delivered a huge block on a Bishop Blanchet player after a Quinton Agosta interception, then stood over the fallen player for a few moments.

Lineman coach Kyle Freeman was also flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct for protesting the call.

Bryan Gilbreath drew his second taunting flag later in the quarter after a big hit on Blanchet quarterback Spencer Marquiss.

The Spartans got on the board quickly when Nick Stone partially blocked a punt deep in Brave territory on Blanchet’s first series of the game.

Dayton Gilbreath ran it in from 20 yards out on the very next play.

On the next series for Blanchet, Dayton Gilbreath sacked Marquiss, forcing him to fumble. Bryan Gilbreath picked up the fumble and ran it in from 20 yards out.

After a Kyle Szarzynski interception, Nick Stone broke several tackles on a 42 yard touchdown run.

Dayton Gilbreath scored his second touchdown on the night a few minutes later.

Agosta threw for two scores, one to Ross Cobb for 33 yards and one to Mike Walsh for four yards.

It’s the third straight win for Bainbridge and the third time this season they’ve shut out an opponent.

It’s also the fifth time they’ve scored 40 or more points this season.

The Spartans play Nathan Hale next Friday in the Metro League crossover game at Memorial Stadium in Seattle Center.

Game time is to be determined.
