Bainbridge blotter | What’s in the bag?

Selected reports from the Bainbridge Island Police Department blotter.

TUESDAY, JUNE 6

3:07 p.m. A 31-year-old transient woman was detained in a downtown Winslow store after a shopkeeper caught her attempting to steal merchandise.

The shop owner said the woman entered the store, put many items into a large bag she was carrying, and then tried to flee when he asked to check it.

She’d run into the changing room, he said, and then quickly exited, leaving behind a pile of clothes that had not been there before. The woman then let the owner see her bag, and he found several other store items inside. He called the police.

After talking with the woman (she had no ID, but did give police her name), who first claimed the situation was a misunderstanding and she intended to have her husband put the items on his credit card, but then admitted she was going to steal them, police discussed the situation with the shop owner and trespassed the woman for life.

The total value of the things she attempted to take was about $760.81.
