THURSDAY, NOV. 19

9:52 a.m. A 52-year-old Poulsbo man in a 1997 Ford Aerostar van was heading east on New Brooklyn Road when he hit a 2005 Subaru Forester traveling south on Sportsman Club road as it went through the intersection.

A witness said the Subaru, piloted by a 53-year-old Naches man, was almost all the way through the intersection when it was hit.

The first driver said he was looking at a different vehicle, and thought it was that vehicle’s turn to pass through the intersection. The man was cited for inattentive driving.

WEDNESDAY, NOV. 18

11:29 a.m. A 39-year-old Suquamish man in a 1995 Subaru Legacy was hit by a 58-year-old woman in a 2003 Mercedes-Benz 430.

The Subaru river pulled out onto Blakely Avenue and was approaching NE Oddfellows Road when the woman in the other vehicle turned left in front of him.

He swerved but was not able to stop in time to avoid the collision.

The woman said she did not see the other driver when she turned onto Blakely.

She spoke with thick, slurred speech and had difficulty maintaining her balance. The officer asked if she had taken prescription medication, then called her doctor, who said slurred speech, slow speech and repetitiveness was usual for the woman. He said her medication should not affect her driving ability.

An aid unit was called to take a blood draw, but after some consideration, the woman declined to give blood.

The officer determined the woman was not DUI, but had medical issues that should keep her from driving. He filed out a request for a retest from the Department of Licensing.

The Subaru sustained front-end damage; the Mercedes-Benz was scratched.

The woman was cited for failure to provide proof of vehicle insurance and failure to yield when turning left.
