SATURDAY, DEC. 5

5:07 p.m. A 26-year-old Seabeck woman in a 2009 Chevy van crashed her vehicle into the front of a store at the Island Village Center on High School Road.

The woman said she pulled into a parking space near the Verizon retailer so she could pick up a delivery at the adjoining dry cleaning business.

It was raining hard and the driver had wet shoes from being in the rain; she said her foot slipped off the brake pedal and hit the gas pedal.

The van went over the curb, across the sidewalk and into the front of the Verizon store, breaking the glass and damaging the building. A witness, the manager of the Verizon store, said he heard a loud crash and saw the van coming into the building.

No one was injured.

11:19 p.m. A 37-year-old Bainbridge man in a 2001 BMW 325i was traveling east on Winthers Road when he drifted and hit a parked 2006 Audi A3. The driver then crossed into the other lane and went into the ditch.

He said he was going between 40 and 45 (in a 30 mph zone) and was looking down to adjust his heating controls and windshield wipers at the time of the accident.

He was cited for inattentive driving and not having insurance.
