Bainbridge blotter | Old man on an ATV

Selected reports from the Bainbridge Island Police Department blotter.

FRIDAY, JULY 13

11:57 a.m. A 57-year-old Bainbridge man reported someone had vandalized his truck, a Dodge Ram 2500.

Someone had apparently added something to the vehicle’s oil which partially solidified the substance, giving it a jelly-like consistency. The man’s mechanic told him it was almost certainly done deliberately.

At least three people had grudges against him, the man told police, but he had no proof or hint as to the actual identity of the vandal.

SATURDAY, JULY 14

9:41 a.m. A 46-year-old Bainbridge Island woman reported an elderly male had ridden an ATV onto her property, a parcel she had recently purchased where she’d cut down a large area of trees to create a family farm. This had upset her neighbors and led to several heated confrontations.

That day, a man had approached the property on an ATV and ridden directly onto the dirt near a large excavator, the woman said. When asked to leave, the man began yelling until at last he left.

When confronted by police, the man said he’d ridden over to see for himself the work his neighbors had been talking about. Once there, he said, the woman approached him and began yelling obscenities. He did not appreciate, he said, being spoken to that way, so he began shouting in return.

The man was advised not to return to the property.
