Bainbridge blotter | Make money from home

Selected reports from the Bainbridge Island Police Department blotter.

SATURDAY, APRIL 15

8:41 p.m. A 21-year-old Bainbridge Island man was driving north on Highway 305 just past the Madison Avenue North intersection in a 2016 Ford F-150 when he hit a deer.

The animal was killed by the collision, and the truck was towed from the scene.

THURSDAY, APRIL 13

10:45 a.m. A 43-year-old Bainbridge man reported a scam.

He said he had been contacted via email by a company called Eidsgaard Brand Management in New York City and the email said the company recruits people to inspect and review products from various merchants.

The company offered to pay $50 for each package inspected and forwarded to another address.

The island man signed up to be an employee because he said it seemed like an easy way to make some extra money at home. He gave the company a scan of his driver’s license, his address, Social Security number and information from his checking account (with the promise that the account number would be used for direct deposits).

He received two packages; one with an iPad that he forwarded as instructed, and one with hair products.

The man became wary when he was not being paid and got notices from Fingerhut, an online retailer, that informed him his order for an iPhone could not be verified.

He thought the phone order must have been made by the New York company, but when he tried to call the company, the phone just rang indefinitely.

Police discovered the company was a scam operation that was set up to gain people’s financial information.
