Sunday, August 5
12:16 a.m. A truck was found abandoned on New Brooklyn Road and Sportsman Club Road. The hood was warm to the touch, but no keys were left in the vehicle. It was blocking a single lane of traffic. The truck was towed away.
2:15 p.m. A man living on Tormey Lane reported that he returned home after being gone for two days and found that his home was burglarized.
A guitar amplifier, a PlayStation 3 and five games, and approximately 350 CDs held within a CD wallet were taken.
The man’s roommate told him that the guitar amplifier was taken by another roommate to a pawn shop in Tacoma and sold. He also said that his PlayStation fell off his dresser and broke so the roommates tossed it in the trash.
No one in the house had seen the roommate who pawned the amp in two or three days. Upon looking up the roommate’s name, police discovered he had a warrant from Kitsap County for marijuana possession.
After his initial report, the man called police back and said he was able to contact his absent roommate who told him he would reimburse him for the amp. The man did not want to pursue filing a theft report, and rather, only wanted to document the incident.
9:16 p.m. After finding a man passed out and intoxicated near Bjune Drive and Shannon Drive, police gave him a ride to what he said was his home on Ferncliff Avenue.
Later that day police were called to the same residence on Fercliff Avenue. Police discovered that the residence was not the intoxicated man’s but where his parents lived.
Apparently, their son had left his truck somewhere in town but forgot where. The parents found it at another property they own.
After their son was dropped off by police earlier, the parents went to retrieve the truck. When they returned the son was attempting to cook. He wanted his car keys back, but his father refused to hand them over because the son was drunk.
The son then shoved his forearm against his father’s throat before pushing him to the ground. The father then called 911; the son attempted to stop the call but it had already gone through. The son then ran away.
Police soon found the son trapped in blackberry bushes behind the house. The bushes were at an area behind the house that was 75 feet above a beach and difficult to access. The Bainbridge Island Fire Department was called to assist and was able to get the son into a harness and pull him out of the bushes. The son received injuries from his bushwhacking; once he was released from medical custody, police arrested the son for assault.
11:56 p.m. Police pulled over a driver who was swerving near Weaver Road and Wyatt Way.
The young man behind the wheel initially told police that he did not consume alcohol that day, but soon said that he had two drinks.
Later at the jail, the driver again said that he had not consumed alcohol, but breath tests showed blood alcohol levels of .174 and .183.
