MONDAY, JULY 18

8:39 p.m. Police responded to a report of theft from a downtown Winslow restaurant. A 34-year-old man left without paying his bill, which totaled about $52.

Police found him walking nearby. He claimed that he had been looking for his credit card, which he realized he lost, and provided a California driver’s license. Police followed him back to the eatery to explain the situation.

The man, who was visibly intoxicated, said he was visiting. Because of his slovenly state and his inability to contact anyone who could verify he had a place to stay, he was arrested for the theft. The man attempted to then call his mother, who he said would pay his bill, but there was no answer at her number.
