Selected reports from the Bainbridge Island Police Department blotter.
FRIDAY, NOV. 6
4:10 p.m. A resident reported a driver who crashed into a fence in the 13600 block of Madison Avenue NE.
Police found a 47-year-old Bainbridge woman in the driver’s seat slumped over the steering wheel.
An officer tried to open a passenger-side door, but the door could not be opened, and the handle broke, because the car was wedged against a tree.
The driver smelled of alcohol and had bloodshot eyes. When asked how much she had to drink before driving, the woman said in a very slurred voice, “Are you kidding me?”
When the officer repeated the question, the woman just looked around.
A witness said he saw the vehicle in the ditch with its wheels spinning, as if the driver was trying to get out of the ditch. As the man pulled up, the vehicle became free, then went across the roadway into the other ditch and then into the trees.
The driver was taken to Harrison Hospital in Bremerton and the vehicle was impounded.
Bremerton police were called to get a blood sample at the hospital.
9:14 p.m. A 61-year-old Poulsbo man reported a hit-and-run involving his 2006 E500 Mercedes Benz.
He had parked at the Town & Country and found a note on his vehicle that said a driver in a red Toyota pickup truck had sideswiped his parked car.
The man found damage to the right rear bumper, red paint and a scratch.
THURSDAY, NOV. 5
8:14 a.m. A 53-year-old Puyallup man in a 1991 Mazda pickup turned off Highway 305 onto Highway 305 when he was hit from behind by a 20-year-old Bremerton man in a 2002 Nissan Alt4d who was also turning onto Day Road but was driving faster than the man in front of him.
The Puyallup man said he could see that he was going to be hit by the other driver and tried to pull off the road to the right but couldn’t get out of the way in time.
The Bremerton driver did not have insurance. He was cited for no proof of insurance and for following too closely.
