Bail $1 million for robbery, standoff, fire, shooting

The Bremerton Police Department released more details on Sunday’s standoff with a Kitsap man that included a house fire allegedly started by the suspect.

Bail has been set at just over $1 million for 33-year-old David Alexander Knox, who was arrested and booked on nine charges, including two counts of 2nd degree attempted murder and 1st degree robbery.

Knox led police on a chase on Highway 3 northbound from Loxie Eagans to Austin Drive, where he lost control of the vehicle and crashed. It was at the crash site where the suspect first fired shots at officers with what appeared to be a rifle — the same weapon that was then used to steal a vehicle at gunpoint.

Knox fled on southbound Highway 3 and entered a house on the 5500 block of Harlow Drive. Police set up a perimeter around the house, along with the county’s SWAT team. Approximately two hours passed, during which multiple negotiation attempts were made for Knox’s surrender. Knox continued to shoot toward the officers, even striking a sheriff’s office vehicle.

It is then believed that Knox started a fire inside the house and used the opportunity to flee on foot, still carrying the rifle, and took yet another vehicle. Road closures at 900 Price Road forced Knox to stop again, where more gunfire was exchanged, and the suspect was eventually arrested.

Knox also is charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, rendering criminal assistance, resisting arrest, assault 2nd degree and eluding.

The house, which was engulfed in flames, is believed to be a total loss. No injuries were reported.

The house is still standing, but is no longer livable, following the fire.
