The 25th annual Summer Studio Tour on Bainbridge Island takes place Aug. 8-10, and 51 artists will be showcasing their work in six studios with original, hand-crafted art.
Each artist goes through a jury process, as the tour looks for artwork that reflects the “hand and spirit of the artist,” per a news release. Some of the artists have been involved for over 25 years.
This year’s event features many new artists, including Dani Gray, who makes abstract mixed media painting and sculpture. “I prefer to use a variety of media carefully layered with a variety of techniques to produce strong emotion and ambiance. I will often gravitate toward the color Payne’s Gray, combined with a variety of other cool colors punctuated with a splash of warmth. This helps my paintings come to life, depicting the landscapes that I see in my mind.”
Veteran tour artist Eileen Sorg will also be there. She is a national award-winning mixed media artist, known for her narrative drawings. She regularly shows her work at juried festivals across the country and has originals in museums and private collections worldwide. Sorg’s work is a combination of India Ink drawings, layered with watercolor and colored pencil. She has also penned several art-teaching books.
The six studios on the tour start with: 1, The Boathouse, across from the Senior Center on the Eagle Harbor waterfront; 2, Danna Watson’s “Dancing Spirit Studio” on Fletcher Bay Road; 3, Barbara Weissman’s studio close to Rolling Bay just off of Valley Road; 4, Elizabeth VanDuine’s Studio on Hyla Avenue just before the Rolling Bay shops; 5, Sophie Frieda’s Studio just one house past the VanDuine Studio; and 6, Lost Forest Ceramics, a pinch to the left on Sunrise Drive from Valley Road.
The event is a free self-guided tour, where patrons can get art directly from the artist. The studios are open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
