1st EV charging station at senior living on BI

Madrona House will have the first senior-specific electric vehicle charging station on Bainbridge Island.

The senior living community also is one of the first Puget Sound Energy Up and Go Electric for Multifamily program participants to install EV chargers.

A PSE grant and some investments by Bainbridge Senior Living’s Madrona House paid for the station.

Madrona House is a family-owned senior community with independent living, assisted living and memory care services. “We are proud to offer our residents a senior specific driving option for convenience, clean energy and exploration,” Madrona officials say in a news release.

It’s not the only change there. Madrona House is creating eight new independent living apartments, a bistro, game room, virtual reality station, art studio and concierge service, due to be completed by this summer.

PSE’s Up and Go program started installing chargers throughout Western Washington in 2019 through a series of pilot projects for home charging, workplaces, multifamily residences, community-based providers and the public. Last year, PSE expanded those pilots into full programs. The charging station at the Madrona House includes four chargers.
