Bay Street businesses stay connected with customers, community

Port Orchard shows why it offers much more than great scenery

Port Orchard’s restaurateurs, shopkeepers and service providers continue to demonstrate the resiliency that’s kept the community strong for generations.

Port Orchard’s restaurateurs, shopkeepers and service providers continue to demonstrate the resiliency that’s kept the community strong for generations.

Way back in 1901, the Kitsap County Business Review noted that the Port Orchard Bay not only commanded “the most beautiful views and panoramas of scenery,” but a thriving community of congenial and hospitable people.

Fast-forward 119 years, and while the historic streets are quieter than a typical spring, Port Orchard’s restaurateurs, shopkeepers and service providers continue to demonstrate the resiliency that’s kept the community strong for generations, says Port Orchard Bay Street Association’s Christine Stansbery.

Take-out treats

The Peninsula Beverage Company makes social distancing a little easier with “Date Night Delivered” and other delicious options, while at Sue’s Fresh Juice Bar and Sandwich Shop, bring a non-perishable food bank donation when you pick up your take-out order and receive 5 percent off your purchase.

Coffee Oasis, supporting job training, housing, case management, resources, community and more for homeless youth, serves up take-out and curbside options, plus online bean orders. Visit thecoffeeoasis.com/covid-19 for hours and information.

Start your day right at Victory Coffee, Tees & More, picking up one of their yummy speciality coffees and breakfast sandwiches. Or, to savor at home, check out Frenchie Coffee Roasters, delivering fresh-ground coffee (and with purchases of $45+, get a Frenchie painting set for an artistic self-isolation break.)

Follow La Palapa Mexican Grill on Facebook to see all the delicious daily lunch and dinner specials for pick-up, and check out Bay Street Bistro’s Bistro To Go program, offering curbside take-out daily from noon 8 p.m. (And if you need a treat to see you through the solitude, there’s always the S’more Brownie!)

Tuck into take-out from the Home Made Café, serving “real food for real people” daily from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. or call The Dock Bar & Eatery in the Port Orchard Market for pick-up for free delivery from noon to 7 p.m. You can even order Olalla Vineyard & Winery vintages by the bottle to accompany your order! Also from the Market, their volunteer driver is happy to deliver some MASA Pizza when you need it, along with meals from The Dock and Sue’s – choose from one or all three in the same delivery!

From steak and fries to flatbread pizzas, take-out options are tops at Brickhouse 714 Bar & Grill, including various specials, or stop by the Nostalgia House Bakery for a sweet treat to savor back home.

Sensational services

Of course, it’s not only local eateries that have come up with innovative ways to stay connected with customers.

While Carter & Co. is closed to the public, they’re busy preparing for Easter and taking orders for their fabulous chocolate eggs!

The Josephine’s Mercantile team is posting images of some awesome items – take a look and practice a little LOCAL online shopping! Businesses like Keelee’s Kloset are looking at curbside pickup, and there’s lots to browse online at GiGi’s Emporium until you can visit in person.

Cookies Pet Corner and Wash serves your four-legged friends with curbside pickup – order by phone, pay by credit card, and they’ll deliver to your car.

Kitsap Physical Therapy, which continues to provide vital health services for patients, is also accepting donations of food and essential household items to deliver to home-bound patients.

More to come

“We must remind ourselves Americans have lived through worse than the current pandemic. We are resilient people and must set our sights on how we will respond to this economic and cultural shift,” says Coreen Haydock. “Those who are resolute – who plan, persevere and prep (to use a restaurant term essential to success!) for our return to business and life as usual will see a quicker, more successful adjustment. Life won’t be the same but it can be better. See you on the other side!”
