US Ambassador praises Bainbridge Island’s Irish Spirit at filming of Rebel Wife documentary

Ambassador recognition and Oct. 22 wine and whiskey tasting continue the Celtic celebrations

The recent Irish Evening on Bainbridge Island wasn’t just a sold-out success – it was a heartfelt reminder of how culture, film and community can come together in meaningful ways.

Organized in partnership with the Irish Heritage Club Seattle, the evening brought neighbors and visitors together at the Lynwood Theatre to celebrate Irish history and heritage. Guests were treated to live music, a screening of Williams Cole’s acclaimed documentary Rebel Wife, and a lively Q&A session that gave audiences a chance to deepen their understanding of Ireland’s revolutionary past.

“The feedback has been overwhelming,” says organizer Debbie Sonandre. “People came into the shop afterward just to thank us. They said it felt like a true community gathering, and they’re already asking when we’ll host another.”

Beyond entertainment, the evening was about connection – bridging Bainbridge Island with Ireland and the broader Pacific Northwest community. That connection reached even further when the US Ambassador to Ireland shared a special message praising the event and its cultural mission.

“It was such a wonderful surprise to receive that recognition,” Sonandre says. “It reminds us this isn’t just about what I can sell in my shop, but about what we can build together as a community.”

The momentum continues this fall with Wine and Whiskey Wednesday, Oct. 22 at the Celtic Crossroads store. This new event will spotlight Washington wines and island whiskey distilleries, paired with light food offerings and specialty items available for pre-order.

“We want to showcase not only what’s available locally but also how people can bring these experiences into their own homes,” Debbie explains.

With each gathering, the vision grows: blending heritage, music, food and film into experiences that strengthen cultural ties and leave lasting memories.

For Debbie, the events are a way to honor Ireland’s past while celebrating its vibrant present – and to ensure Bainbridge Island continues to enjoy a taste of Celtic spirit.
