Celtic Crossroads brings a taste of Ireland and Scotland to Bainbridge Island this October

An evening of whiskey, wine and bespoke craftsmanship celebrates the timeless artistry of Celtic makers – just in time for the holidays

Step into a cozy Celtic celebration on Oct. 22 from 5 to 7 p.m. as Celtic Crossroads NW hosts Whiskey & Wine Wednesday – an intimate evening where fine craftsmanship meets community spirit. Guests are invited to enjoy Washington wines and whiskeys, light hors d’oeuvres and music while exploring a collection of hand-crafted garments and gifts made by small family artisans from Ireland and Scotland.

Owner Debbie Sonandre has built deep relationships with these independent makers, each committed to sustainability, natural fibers and the preservation of traditional hand crafted techniques. “These sweaters and tweed garments are made in Ireland or Scotland by small family businesses,” says Sonandre. “They only produce what they can sustain – so knowing what people want ahead of time helps them buy their yarn and plan their work.”

The event offers guests the rare opportunity to place custom orders for sweaters, hats, scarves and more – each crafted from breathable, eco-friendly natural fibers designed to last for decades. “These are garments you can wear for years,” Sonandre says. “They’re linked, not sewn, so they won’t unravel like many mass-produced items. Even if you tossed one in your compost pile, it wouldn’t harm the earth.”

The idea for Whiskey & Wine Wednesday was sparked by friend and dedicated customer Eileen O’Grady, who admired the craftsmanship of a sweater in the shop and wondered how others might have a similar chance to personalize their own pieces. From that spark came an event that celebrates both heritage and connection – linking Bainbridge to the artistry of Celtic makers across the sea.

Guests can place pre-orders now or at the event, with all orders due by Oct. 26 to ensure arrival by Christmas. For those who miss the holiday deadline, Sonandre plans to host more bespoke-order evenings in February, ahead of the spring color launches.

Whether you’re drawn by the lure of Irish wool, the smooth taste of local whiskey, or the simple joy of community, Whiskey & Wine Wednesday promises an evening steeped in warmth, heritage and handmade beauty.
