Tickets on sale for spring concerts

Amabile Choir of Bainbridge Island will present its annual spring concert series, Hope for a Brighter Day, in May at Saint Barnabas Episcopal Church.

Performances have been set for 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 4 and 3 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 5.

The 50-voice choir will be led by music director Sylvia Cauter, and the singers will be joined in music by accompanist Laura Milleson on piano.

The program will offer a broad selection of works by composers that include Ivo Antognini, Susan LaBarr, Ola Gjeilo and Gwyneth Walker; plus arrangers Daniel Hughes, Shawn Kirchner, Keith Hampton and others.

Organizers note the music has been chosen to reflect the idea of spring as a time of renewal and the rebirth of hope.

Individual tickets are available for an $18 suggested donation. They may be purchased directly from Amabile choir members or at Dana’s Showhouse, 194 Winslow Way East (across from Blackbird Bakery).

The Amabile Choir of Bainbridge Island is a mixed-voice ensemble of 45 to 55 singers drawn from Bainbridge Island and the Kitsap Peninsula.

Amabile was founded originally by Island musician and resident Anne Pell for the purpose of singing together to express love of and through music. The choir performs a wide range of choral music including contemporary choral literature, 19th and 20th Century composers, American spirituals and a variety of world music.
