‘Doc’ Has Three Birthday Cakes

Most people celebrate a birthday with just one cake but Dr. F.L. Shepard, Winslow, had three. He also had four birthday parties all in honor of his eightieth birthday.

Mrs. Shepard, telling of the parties this week said Dr. Shepard’s friends in the Island Sportman’s Club presented him with a sweater at their meeting and party last week. Barbara Jean, Dr. Shepard’s granddaughter, baked the first birthday cake which was served at a dinner party Saturday evening in the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. F.L. Shepard Jr., on Tolo Road. Other grandchildren, Frank III, Mark and John, also were in attendance at the affair.

Guests at a Sunday evening dinner party in Dr. Shepard’s Winslow home were the Mssrs. and Mesdames David Myers, also of Winslow; E.S. Olsen, Lynwood, and the Myers’ son-in-law from Honolulu, Charles Crouse.

Old friends and former residents at a Monday afternoon gathering also in Dr. Shepard’s home were Mr. and Mrs. Eric Pousard and the Rev. and Mrs. E. A. Ballis, Seattle. Mrs. Delia Wallace and Mrs. C.T. Wyatt of Winslow, also were present.

What? Again!

Poor Greg in Denver; No Yule Gift Unless Grandparents Are Found

BY BETTE NUTE

Poor Greg; No Christmas present again this year from Grandma and Grandpa. Last year’s toy truck was sent to Greg but returned from Denver to the Winslow post office for lack of an address label. This year, Greg’s new blue terry cloth robe was returned to the Port Blakely post office.

Now this is the sad story. We know Grandma and Grandpa remembered you, Greg. They wrapped your presents and tagged them with love, from Grandma and Grandpa, and sent them to Denver where we all think you live, but this year’s box was marked “received in bad condition” by the Denver post office authorities. Somewhere the address label came off, just like last year’s.

We can’t give you the truck. It had to be sent to the dead letter office, but we surely would like to see that you have your pretty new robe to wear.

Doesn’t anyone know who Grandma and Grandpa are?

‘D — — – The Torpedoes!’
