Ometepe benefit calendars on sale this weekend

It’s a matchup you won’t want to miss.

Fifth-graders and second-graders at The Island School have teamed up to produce the calendar that Bainbridge Islanders love to support every holiday season. The “Kids Can Make A Difference” calendar — now in its 26th year — is going on sale this weekend.

Calendar sales raise money for projects for Bainbridge’s sister island in Ometepe, Nicaragua through construction projects, library and school supplies, scholarships and more.

This year’s calendar features “Highlights of Ometepe and Bainbridge.”

Student artists will sell 2019 calendars in Winslow at Blackbird Bakery, Safeway, T&C and Ace Hardware starting Friday, Nov. 23, and the sale continues on Saturday, Nov. 24 and Sunday, Nov. 25.

Calendars are available at Eagle Harbor Books as well.

The “Kids Can Make A Difference” calendar project was launched by third-grade teachers Boo Schneider (Ordway Elementary) and Alice Mendoza (Wilkes/Ordway elementaries). After they both retired, the project was passed on to the children at The Island School in 2014.

The Island School is an independent school educating students in kindergarten through fifth grade.
