Music lovers have choices on Bainbridge in February

Here is just a sampling of music events scheduled for February on Bainbridge Island.

The Bee Eaters

The Bee Eaters return from the East Coast to BPA at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 5 for an evening of acoustic music. The foursome features Bainbridge Island grown banjo and hammered dulcimer virtuosos Wesley Corbett and Simon Chrisman with six-time Grand National Fiddle Champions Tristan and Tashina Clarridge.

Kings of Mongrel Folk

Cabin Fever Dance

The Tall Boys bring homegrown fiddlin’ to Bainbridge for “Cabin Fever II”, a benefit dance for Madrona School and the Kitsap Community and Agricultural Alliance from 2-5 p.m. Feb. 7 at the Grange Hall, 10340 Madison Ave. All ages. The Stephens House

Bainbridge Island Symphony

If you’re a music lover, the Bainbridge Symphony Orchestra has a Feburary lineup you’ll swoon over.

Symphony director David Upham presents “Behind the Score,” a free presentation at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Bainbridge Library. Get a taste of what’s in store when the orchestra performs “Music Lovers” on Feb. 20 and 21.

On Feb. 19, a brass quintet from the orchestra featuring two trumpets (Eli Pugh and Terry Nickels), a French horn (Richard Davis), trombone (Drew Jackson) and tuba (Jas Linford) perform an eclectic program from 5:45 to 6:45 p.m. at the Pavilion, 403 Madison Ave. This free performance is a preview for the major Feb. 20 and 21 concert at BPA.

On Feb. 20 and 21, the orchestra takes the BPA stage to perform a selection of compositions about the greatest lovers and love stories of classical music.

Island Music Center

On the heels of a deal to acquire a beautiful new grand piano, Island Music Center gears up for a flurry of events in February.

First is a benefit concert “Hard Times Fest: Music of the (last) Great Depression,” 7 p.m. Feb. 19, organized by Art Hanlon and Mark Hoffman. The event will feature a lineup of local and imported talent including blues singer Del Rey.

Admission is $15, and proceeds will go to Doctors Without Borders or Friends of the Orphans for victims of the Haitian earthquake.

Island Music Center welcomes Bertram Levy and TangoHeart! at 8 p.m. Feb. 20 for a fabulous night of Latin-inspired music.

On Feb. 21, renowned fiddler Stuart Williams takes the stage at 3 p.m. in the second of the Faculty Concert Series which features Island Music Center teachers.

Plans are under way for a fundraiser “Pianothon” April 23-25 to raise money for the new piano. The event will showcase the island’s amazing musicians for a marathon weekend of performances.

The Atomic Bombshells

The Atomic Bombshells present J’ADORE!, a wild burlesque Valentine show at 8 p.m. Feb. 13 at BPA. Seattle’s reigning burlesque super-troupe delivers a high-energy evening that celebrates l’amour with good humor, style and a healthy dose of glamour. Bring a friend, lover, family member or a secret crush, and celebrate with the Valentine’s burlesque spectacular that will leave you breathless. Jasper McCann emcees with high style and charm.

Mark Power

Mark Power, one of Bainbridge Island’s favorite voice teachers and a singer with an immense breadth of vocal talent, has created a semi-autobiographical selection of music ranging from sacred works, opera arias, broadway show tunes and pop hits as part of First Sundays at the Commons special Valentine’s Day Cabaret concert at 4 p.m. Sunday, February 14.

“If you listen closely, over the course of this concert you will hear the story of my life,” he said.

Power will be accompanied by the Renegade Children’s Opera Chorus, which includes Bainbridge Island youths.

The concert takes place at the Bainbridge Commons, next to the Senior Center at 402 Brien Drive (by Waterfront Park). Admission is $20 adults, $15 seniors, $10 students. Tickets are sold at the door only. For more information, visit www.firstsundayconcerts.org.

Seabold Second Saturday

Enjoy an evening of acoustic music when Lena Davidson takes the stage Feb. 13 at Seabold Community Hall, 14451 Komedal Rd. Open-mic performances begin at 7:30 (sign-ups 6:30-7), followed Davidson.
