John Reischman and The Jaybirds to play Bainbridge concert

In the wake of their fourth critically-acclaimed album and extensive touring schedule, John Reischman and The Jaybirds are quickly becoming known as a standout group in the worlds of bluegrass and classic Americana music.

In the wake of their fourth critically-acclaimed album and extensive touring schedule, John Reischman and The Jaybirds are quickly becoming known as a standout group in the worlds of bluegrass and classic Americana music.

The popular entertainers will play a special concert event this week at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 17 at Island Center Hall (8395 Fletcher Bay Road).

Tickets are on sale now. The cost is $17 in advance (available at Vern’s Drug in downtown Winslow or through the Bainbridge Island Metro Park & Recreation District via 206-842-2306) or $20 at the door.

Discounted tickets are available for students.

The band’s latest album, “Stellar Jay,” was nominated for two 2007 Canadian Folk Music Awards and has been praised by Nashville Public Radio as, “A masterpiece — a fascinating and fresh-sounding collection of tunes that incorporate the best elements of bluegrass and old-time into a killer new sound.”

Bluegrass Unlimited Magazine described tone-master and composer Reischman as “one of the world’s undisputed masters” of the mandolin.
