Grace to host concert, workshop

Sarode player Steve Oda (senior disciple of Ustad Ali Akbar Khan) and tabla superstar Ty Burhoe (disciple of Zakir Hussain) will perform a special “Music of India” concert event at Grace Episcopal Church (8595 NE Day Road) at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 21.

“This is a great opportunity to experience the brilliance and beauty of classical Indian music, one of the most sophisticated and inspiring musical traditions,” said event spokesman Jon Crane.

Burhoe has been a disciple of the great tabla maestro Hussain, since 1990. He is known for his inspired accompaniment and uplifting presence in both classical and in fusion settings. He is internationally recognized for being instrumental in creating unique collaborations that weave tabla with other world traditions. He has become well known not only for his talents as a tabla player, but also for his extensive experience as a recording engineer and live concert producer.
