Inspired by the famous outdoor quilt show in Sisters, Ore., Bainbridge Island will hold its first annual quilt show in September.

The free community event will celebrate quilting and quilters on the island, with quilts displayed throughout downtown Winslow all day, along with demonstrations, activities, and entertainment.

The Bainbridge Quilt Festival will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14 on Winslow Way and the downtown.

The festival is a non-juried show, meaning it is open to all entrants, whether a quilter is displaying a first quilt or a 50th. Organizers are encouraging all local quilters to participate in the event.

There will be a general category, plus special categories for Young Quilters (under 14), Small Art Quilts, Quilting Men and Floor Cloths.

Find details, entry guidelines and an online entry form at www.bainbridgequiltfestival.com.

Hard copies of the entry form are also available at Esther’s Fabrics, 181 Winslow Way East.

Organizers are also looking for volunteers. On show day, help will be needed from across the community. No experience with quilting is necessary; see the website for details and signup.

The 2013 Bainbridge Quilt Festival is sponsored by the Bainbridge Modern Quilt Guild, Bainbridge Arts & Crafts, Esther’s Fabrics and Pink Chalk Studios.
