Class helps retirees tap into creativity

This September, Kate Gavigan will teach Julia Cameron's new book, "It's Never Too Late to Begin Again: Discovering Creativity and Meaning at Midlife and Beyond."

Jack London had a brute force method for creativity. “Don’t loaf and invite inspiration,” he said. “Light out after it with a club.”

Julia Cameron’s approach is a little less violent but proactive nonetheless. Her 12-week program is all about conquering creativity blocks through meditation and artistic exercises.

This September, Kate Gavigan will offer a special class for retirees based on Cameron’s latest book, “It’s Never Too Late to Begin Again: Discovering Creativity and Meaning at Midlife and Beyond” at the Poulsbo Library.

Gavigan has been facilitating Artist’s Way classes in Seattle since 2009 and has regularly seen her students experience powerful transformation.

In this interactive class, she will guide students through the book’s 12 chapters and share some easy and useful tools that can assist students in enhancing their creativity and, in turn, their life.

The class will meet from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesdays from

Sept. 14 through Dec. 7. Tuition is $415.
