BSO announces new season auditions

The Bainbridge Symphony Orchestra is hosting auditions for the 2015-16 season.

BSO has current openings for horn, bassoon, violin, viola, and double bass players.

Players of all other instruments are encouraged to audition for the substitute musician list.

Auditions will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 30 at BPA, 200 Madison Ave. North.

Those auditioning should prepare two contrasting works of their choice that display the depth of their musical sensitivity and range of technical ability. Come prepared to play a total of five to eight minutes of music. Sight-reading for all instruments will be requested; music will be provided on site. Those interested in auditioning for principal positions will be asked to prepare excerpts.

BSO rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at BPA.

Performances during the 2015-16 season are slated for Nov. 14, 15 and Feb. 20 and 21, as well as April 16, 17 and June 3 and 5.

This year’s four-concert season features new music by living composers including Christopher Rogerson’s “Luminosity” and Mason Bates’ “Mothership.” The BSO will also perform Carl Nielsen’s “Symphony No. 3, ‘Sinfonia espansiva’,” Beethoven’s “Fourth Piano Concerto,” Dvorak’s “Symphony No 8,” and Ravel’s dazzling orchestration of Mussorgsky’s “Pictures at an Exhibition” and more.
