Best Bets for Dec. 14-16 | The Bainbridge Blab

Wow, there is a lot of stuff going on around here this weekend. The fading days of 2018 are far from bereft of festivities on the Rock, people. What say we just jump right in?

Erich Cannon, former manager of Bainbridge Cinemas, co-wrote and produced the film “Fall City,” recently released to video-on-demand via Amazon.

In the movie, recently paroled thief Jon Price is forced to return to his small, rainy hometown of Fall City, Washington just before Christmas, where he unexpectedly begins to find joy as he meets a struggling single mother who shows him true kindness, and he begins filling the role of a father for her young daughter.

Directed by Nathan D. Lee, the movie can be rented for $2.99 or bought for $9.99, or seen for free by Amazon Prime members. It will also have a special three-day theatrical run at the Lynwood Theatre at 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14 through Sunday, Dec. 16.

Both the producer and co-writer/director have local ties.

“Myself and the film’s director … grew up in Poulsbo and graduated from North Kitsap High School,” Cannon said.

Both men currently live in Los Angeles, but came back home for the movie.

The Bainbridge Chorale will present Rejoice and Sing! — a beloved holiday tradition in our community since 1971 — at Rolling Bay Presbyterian Church in three full full-length concerts this weekend.

The concerts are 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14; 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15; and 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16. The shows will feature a choral repertoire sure to evoke the magical feelings of the season.

A shorter family concert featuring the Olympic Girls’ Choir will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15 at Rolling Bay Presbyterian Church.

Tickets are also available at Dana’s Showhouse, 194 Winslow Way.

The Bainbridge Island Museum of Art will host two consecutive “Meet the Artist” events this weekend.

First, on Saturday, Dec. 15, painter Pamela Wachtler will visit the museum bistro from noon to 3 p.m.

Admission is free and no registration is required to attend this, an informal opportunity to engage and ask questions about her work, inspiration and process.

Then, on Sunday, Dec. 16, painter Alfredo Arreguin will visit from noon to 3 p.m.

Admission is likewise free, and no registration is required.

BIMA’s current exhibition features more than 30 paintings, with an emphasis on Arreguin’s more recent productions as well as older paintings retained in the artist’s private collection.

The community is invited to come celebrate the sounds of the season as the Olympic Girls’ Choir presents “Winter Songs,” a selection of pieces reflecting the beauty and tranquility of the natural world in winter.

The concert is 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15 at Rolling Bay Presbyterian Church, 11042 Sunrise Drive NE.

Admission is free for this heart-warming, family-friendly performance.

With her violin and voice at the center of her music, Kathryn Claire weaves together stories and melodies rooted in her classical and traditional musical background while infusing each song and composition with an energy and electricity that is palpable.

The violinist/vocalist will perform at the Treehouse Café at 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15.

Claire’s musicality and joy on stage has been described as infectious. Honest and poetic writing, crystalline vocals, impassioned violin compositions, and an ability to move seamlessly across genres, are the hallmark of Claire’s original and diverse sound.

Joining her for the Treehouse show is pianist and percussionist Don Henson, who was featured on “Bones Will Last” and has toured extensively with Claire in the Pacific Northwest. His band, Sneakin Out, has played various stages with Pink Martini, on The Tonight Show (with Jay Leno) and played Carnegie Hall.

Admission, for those 21-and-older only, is $15 for reserved table seating. Visit www.treehousebainbridge.com to learn more and purchase.
