To the editor:

I have been a teacher at Wilkes Elementary for the past seven years. Last May I was among a group of teachers who received a layoff notice from the Bainbridge Island School District because of state budget cuts.

Thanks to community donations made to the Bainbridge Schools Foundation, the district was able to hire back over nine teacher positions.

This year, no teachers received pink slips, thanks in large part to the Bainbridge Schools Foundation’s Dollar a Day campaign and other fundraising efforts.

The foundation plays an integral role in helping the school district maintain smaller class sizes and adequate staffing. Please consider a donation to the Dollar a Day campaign. The Bainbridge Schools Foundation is the only organization able to fundraise for staff salaries.

Please go to www.bainbridgeschoolsfoundation.org or mail your donation to the Bainbridge Schools Foundation, 8489 Madison Ave., Bainbridge Island, WA 98110.

Thank you for your support of the teachers and staff of the Bainbridge Island School District.
