To the editor:

My husband was born in the Virginia Mason Clinic 61 years ago. He has seen a lot of change, one of them is that what was once an island covered with strawberry fields, and dotted sparsely with forests is now the opposite.

He does not have a memory of the big tall stands of evergreen, but rather a long clear view of the rolling hills of the island. The island has been clear cut twice and what we see are third and fourth growth trees. Thankfully there has been wisdom to replant.

I am not in favor of this recent clear cut at High School Road and Highway 305, and I commend Chiara D’Angelo for her bold statement up in a tree.

I recognize the disappointment and passion of the protestors, but based on my husband’s perspective this has happened before and will happen again.

The question has to be asked by all of us, when is it enough? After we have dropped the trees on our property to build our homes? Sadly that is the case as the island becomes more populated and the demand for more services becomes necessary.

Although WE THE PEOPLE were given the opportunity for our voices to be heard, Visconsi and the city merely flipped us the bird.

If this is the consensus we can expect from our governing bodies we can expect more clear cuts. It is all about revenue, after all.
