Was tree removal at park necessary? | Letters | Sept. 25

My wife and I were walking in Battle Point Park last week and noticed to our dismay that about two dozen of the Lombardi poplars surrounding the new turf field had been cut down.

A reader board post said the trees were removed because of an assessment done by both Olaf Ribierio and Katy Krokower that found them to be past maturity and in decline.

My wife and I are approaching 70 years and while we may be more mature in years and probably declining a bit compared to our youth, I am hoping that Olaf and friends don’t recommend our removal.
