To the editor:

I support Tom Swolgaard’s re-election to the Bainbridge metro parks board. I have observed Tom in board and committee meetings and have been impressed by his passion and commitment to expanding trails and recreational opportunities on Bainbridge Island.

Tom has an extraordinary knowledge of the island and he understands what it takes to create new trail opportunities. He also supports the purchase of land to address the growing need for new trails and programs.

Tom has strongly supported a variety of new recreational opportunities, including Owen’s Playground, Jay’s Pump Track and the upcoming pickleball courts at Battle Point. Tom will continue to look for opportunities to expand outdoor recreation for islanders.

Tom carefully considers new proposals and weighs the costs and benefits for the community. He is also careful to afford full public participation in park district decision-making.

Tom is serving our community exceptionally well and should be re-elected to the parks board.
