Use state’s ‘hush money’ to improve our shoreline | Letters | Dec. 31

I think it was a big mistake of the four council members to accept WSF’s “hush money” ($2 million).

Now it appears we will compound the problem by squandering those ill-gotten gains on so called improvements to Waterfront Park Marina.

I have a better idea in hope of salvaging something from this fiasco.

Instead of benefiting a few, why don’t we benefit us all by setting the money aside as a fund for private and public shoreline improvements on Bainbridge?

For example, if waterfront owners want to improve their property’s shoreline, they would submit a plan for the city.

Once approved, the plan could be partially subsidized by this grant – thus benefitting not only the island but all of Puget Sound.

I don’t know how far the $2 million would go, but improving shorelines to any degree is better in the long term, than accommodating a few more affluent boat owners at Waterfront Park.
