To the editor:
I have to take issue with those who have written letters to the editor regarding the “booing” that greeted the Trump float at the Fourth of July parade. They want the citizens of Bainbridge Island to be more tolerant of their candidate and their views.
I find that they are being intolerant if not outright hypocritical. One can oppose abortion without imposing their view on the woman who feels it is the right choice for her. Closing borders is not so much racist, as it’s xenophobic.
As the daughter of Holocaust survivors, tolerance for all has been instilled in me. Be it nationality, religion, skin color, sexual preference, body size, gender — in the America my parents struggled to bring me to, ALL are welcome.
My question to all Trump supporters, and especially those who have voiced their opinion in these pages, is have you contacted your candidate regarding the language and vitriol he spews daily? Booing is nowhere close to the bullying, name calling, threats of physical violence, ignorant and insipid remarks made by the very candidate they are defending.
Since 9/11 we are encouraged to “see something, say something;” we teach our children and grandchildren to speak out against bullying. Those that booed are to be admired, not admonished.
