Elise Wright’s letter (“State’s restrictions on land lease option mostly unworkable,” Nov. 26) is right on the mark.

WSF hasn’t really offered the city anything but to overcome the rights of the citizens to redevelop a marine boatyard and service center. It is a cleverly disguised proposal to legitimize the continued use of our very valuable Eagle Harbor shoreline for the inefficient and costly [WSF] maintenance yard.

Let’s face it, WSDOT condemned the major portion of the maintenance yard from Russell Trask and after prolonged legal proceedings paid Mr. Trask a mere fraction of the site value.

If WSDOT wants to work with us, they should deed the proposed lease property to COBI as well as make the $2 million offered. Without that, COBI should walk away from the whole matter.

To use the $2 million for anything but a boatyard and a marina learning and service center is without merit. To enlarge the wobbly city dock now connected to a series of floats to accommodate large vessels from other areas is not in the best interest of Bainbridge Island.

It may accommodate some mainlanders, but would not accommodate their own crafts.
