To the editor:
In my ongoing rant about drivers speeding and not stopping at crosswalks, here is my latest.
I was in the Safeway/Rite Aid parking lot looking for a place to park. I was going at the most 5 mph, and had my left turn signal on to turn down a parking lane. As I was turning, a driver had just starting backing out of their space. This was just the spot I was looking for, but being a driver who also yields the right of way to someone who might not see me, I stopped to let them exit their space. Suddenly a large vehicle came up behind me and honked. She yelled out the window that it wasn’t that I had stopped, but that I had stopped too “quickly.”
Given that I was already going about as slow as I could have, I would love to have had a chance for her to rear-end me and try to use the excuse with the police and her insurance company that I had stopped “too quickly.” Umm, do you think it would have exonerated her?
