Men with life-changing illnesses form group | Letters | July 9

Men’s support group? Who needs it! Well, maybe you. My wife has been after me to start a men’s support group – yuck! As if I couldn’t solve my own problems. I’m a man, and I don’t need a place to “share” my feelings.

Sure, there was that time three years ago when I first started suffering from prostate cancer and just wanted to sit in a corner and cry.

My wife wanted me to attend a support group at Harmony Hill Cancer Retreat. I reluctantly went – just for her, of course, since I didn’t need anything. But what a surprise – it changed my life.

Now there’s a new support meeting (not a group, OK?) for men trying to deal with life-changing illnesses that gathers at Rolling Bay Presbyterian Church at 11 a.m. each Monday. Your wife asked for this. She wants you to attend. Will I see you there?
