As a certified tree-hugger with photos to prove it, I nevertheless applaud PSE taking on tree trimming to minimize power outages.
Especially with burn bans often in effect, keeping homes warm in winter is essential.
However, it would have been helpful to point out that often trees that fall over lines are infested with invasive English ivy.
This noxious plant climbs trees and the spreading vines form a “wind sail,” making the trees top heavy and more vulnerable in high winds.
The city, parks, Puget Sound Power and property owners all need to take responsibility to rid the island of ivy and improve our chances of keeping the power on all winter.
At the very least, kill the climbing vines by cutting them off at the ground.
