Bainbridge: Mayor, council need to work together

Mr. Stevens’ letter placing blame on the mayor for the city’s financial woes misses the mark entirely. We learned in the last few years that we are suffering from an entirely dysfunctional City Council that cannot find a way to compromise on significant issues. Even when they do sometimes agree on a policy or program they come back later and pull the rug out from under some poor city employee that had the audacity to enforce their stated wishes.

We learned in the last few years that we are suffering from an entirely dysfunctional City Council that cannot find a way to compromise on significant issues. Even when they do sometimes agree on a policy or program they come back later and pull the rug out from under some poor city employee that had the audacity to enforce their stated wishes.

In the face of shrinking revenues due to a slowing economic picture, the city is bound to have financial difficulties. The time has come for the council and, yes the mayor, to come together and make the hard decisions that will move the city forward. I support the strong-mayor form of government for a city the size of Bainbridge. What I don’t support is a council made up of folks with such large egos that they cannot find a way to work together.
