For 25 years people all across the world have been asking, “Where’s Waldo?”

Here’s a hint: for the month of July, he will be on Bainbridge Island.

To help celebrate the iconic missing man with a striped shirt and matching beanie cap, Eagle Harbor Books has teamed up with 20 Winslow Way businesses to create a real-life “Where’s Waldo” search.

Throughout the month of July, stores featuring a Waldo sign in their display window will have a small Waldo hidden somewhere inside their businesses.

“If you find Waldo you get a card saying you found him,” said Victoria Irwin of Eagle Harbor Books

Collect eight cards and Eagle Harbor Books will provide a reward of a Waldo button.

Collecting 16 or more cards will earn a button and entry into a drawing for prizes such as a Waldo puzzle or a tennis shoe dog chew toy. The grand prize will be a set of all six Waldo books.

“It’s open to residents and tourists,” Irwin said. “It’s free, no charge. It’s a fun summer thing.”

Prizes will be drawn at a culminating Where’s Waldo party at the book store on July 31.

The library is also in a festive mood to celebrate the man who has been missing for 25 years. Waldo will be missing at the library from 1 to 5 p.m. Thursday, July 5. Eager seekers who find him will get prizes. Dressing up in Waldo attire is encouraged.

A list of all the participating downtown businesses can be found on the Eagle Harbor Books website and at all participating businesses.
