Panthers edge BHS in girls hoops

SEATTLE – The Seattle Prep Panthers snuck past the Bainbridge High varsity girls basketball squad 38-36 Friday, Dec. 18, despite a promising Spartan barrage of baskets in the first quarter.

Bainbridge leapt out in front 8-2 in the first, but was outpaced 12-9 in the second.

Entering the second half up 17-14, the Spartans were quickly left behind as the Panthers outscored BHS 13-5 in the third.

Trailing 27-25, the Spartans came back big in the fourth (9-4) and the game finished 31-31 and destined for overtime.

In OT, the Panthers came out ahead and the Spartans were unable to wrest back control of the court in time.

Taylor Tye led the BHS squad with 14 points.

Katie Usellis put up seven, and Natalie Beatie managed six points for the Spartans.
