A 32-year-old Bainbridge Island man was charged with second-degree trafficking in stolen property earlier this week after police alleged he sold a gold bracelet that was stolen during a burglary this summer at a home on Bainbridge.
Jose Alex Tarazon was charged in Kitsap County District Court Monday, Nov. 23.
Police said a Bainbridge home was burglarized sometime between
July 28 and Aug. 2, and one of the items was a unique, handmade gold bracelet that was valued at $1,500.
A Bainbridge police officer later discovered that Tarazon had allegedly sold the gold bracelet to the Cash America pawn shop in Bremerton on Oct. 20. Police learned he had been paid $350 for the bracelet.
Tarazon once worked for the owner of the jewelry, and had been her roommate before the burglary. Police claimed he had moved out before the theft and the victim had not seen or heard from him for about a week before the burglary.
Police recovered the bracelet on Nov. 10 and the owner positively identified the item as hers.
Tarazon was arrested by Bainbridge police on Sunday, Nov. 22. He allegedly admitted to selling the bracelet to Cash America, but denied it was stolen, according to court documents.
Tarazon was booked into Kitsap County Jail on Monday.
Conviction of second-degree trafficking in stolen property can result in a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine. Bail was set at $10,000.
Tarazon also faces a bail amount of $5,000 for an earlier misdemeanor charge of failure to appear/contempt of court.
