Bainbridge sets records aplenty at tri-school track-and-field meet

The Bainbridge High varsity track-and-field team set numerous new personal and season records at an island-based meet on Thursday, April 25.

Squads from Ingraham and Roosevelt High Schools trekked to Bainbridge for the gathering.

There were numerous top finishes and records set among both the men and women.

Junior Emma Brundige finished first in the 200-meter dash (27.08), and second, with a new personal record of 59.90, in the 400-meters.

Senior Elizabeth Messinger finished second in the 800-meters with a new personal record of 2:28.11.

Freshman Eden Michael finished first (5:34.87) and senior Josephine Meier third (5:49.54, a new personal record) in the 1600-meters.

In the 100-meter hurdles, senior Natalie Taylor set a new season record (17.43) and claimed third place.

The team of Lucy King, Zoe Lim, Meghan McPherson and Mia Vilke took second in the 4×200 relay event (1:59.67), and likewise Eden Michael, Elena Conklin, Josephine Meier and Kari Perry in the 4×400 (5:19.57).

Bainbridge led the day in the shot put event: freshman Claire Jackson finished first (27-07.00) and sophomore Charlotte Bourgeois second (26-10.50).

Charlotte Bourgeois was also the best finisher for Bainbridge in the discus event, in fourth place (55-08).

The pole vault was a Bainbridge show all the way, with Spartans scoring the top four spots and all setting new personal records to boot. Freshmen Sophia Soltes and Bryn Tiernan tied for first place (7-06.00), Katharine Cooper took third (7-00.00) and Caroline Payne fourth (7-00.00).

Charlotte Bourgeois again claimed a top spot for BHS, finishing third in the triple jump (27-09.75).

Sophomore Jack Hunt finished third, setting a new personal record (11.95) in the 100-meter dash.

Leander von Specht, a senior, was the top finisher in the 200-meters with a new personal record (23.66).

Perpetual frontrunner, speed machine Carlo Ruggiero, a senior, finished first in the 400-meters with 50.37, a new personal record.

Star senior Sebastian Belkin finished fourth in the 800-meters, setting a new season record (2:06.10).

In the 3200-meters, freshman Alexander Miller set a new personal record (10:21.30).

Seniors Sean Lindsey and Andrew Westphal finished second and third respectively in the 110-meter hurdle event. Lindsey set a new personal record of 17.40 and Westphal a new season record of 19.93. Lindsey also excelled in the 300-meter hurdles, finishing in second place (45.05).

The relay team of Joe Tabisola, Pierre Visconti, Andrew Frankie Owen and Sean Lindsey finished second (47.0) in the 4×100 event.

In the shot put competition, senior Kyle Smit scored a new personal record and finished in first place (37-09.50).

BHS dominated the discus, with Joe Tabisola, Andrea Palazzo and Kyle Smit finished first, second and third respectively.

A new season record was set by senior Andrew Frankie Owen in the high jump (5-06.00), and a third-place finish was notched.

Spartan sophomore Elliott Lynch finished second in the pole vault event (9-00.00), while junior Joshua Goguen finished third (8-00.00).
