Mercer Island defeated Bainbridge Island in a much-anticipated rematch last week in girls varsity lacrosse at Bainbridge High.
The game was a replay of last May’s state championship finale, but this time, MI came out on top and beat the defending state champions, 11-4.
MI kept the offensive pressure on the Spartans throughout the game, with 24 shot attempts on goal.
Bainbridge, by contrast, had only six shots on goal during the rematch.
Grace Fujinaga and Hannah Tiscornia paced the Mercer offense, and the pair combined for five of the Islanders’ goals.
Four players scored for the Spartans. Eleanor Collins, Kendall Havill, Bella Jackson and Eleanor King contributed one goal each.
Collins and Havill also each had an assist.
Goalie Thuy Lan Ortiz had a busy night on the Bainbridge end. She finished with 13 saves (54.2 percent) in goal.
