Lucky night for Beavers in varsity gymnastics

SEATTLE – Ballard escaped with a slim win in girls varsity gymnastics against Bainbridge late last week as the Beavers prevailed 166.3-164.1.

Ingraham finished third (149.8) and Nathan Hale was fourth (116.4) in last Friday’s season opener.

A fine night on bars proved to be crucial for Ballard. The Beavers finished first in that event (39.6) over second-place Bainbridge (36.5).

Ballard also took first in vault (42.85), followed by the Spartans (41.25).

Bainbridge won both beam (42.1) and floor exercise (44.25).

Mariko Ronan was the standout Spartan on floor; she finished first with a score of 9.25.

Remi Rosencrans placed fifth (8.95) in the event for BHS.

Ronan was also first on beam, with a 9.

Alathea Pippinger tied for third at 8.5 with Ingraham’s Natalie Booth, while Rosencrans was fifth for BHS with 8.4, and Emma Chee tied for sixth with an 8.3 (with Nathalie Shoji from the Rams).

Rosencrans led the Spartans on bars, her best event of the meet, with a third place and a score of 7.7.

In all-around competition, Ronan finished third with a total of 34.25.

Rosencrans was fourth, with an all-around score of 33.25.
