UPDATE | Ferry Tacoma drops anchor as vessel awaits tow boat

The ferry MV Tacoma has dropped anchor — a rarity for a state ferry on a sailing in Puget Sound — as the crew grapples with a propulsion power failure during the 12:20 p.m. run from Seattle to Bainbridge Island.

The ferry lost propulsion power shortly before 1 p.m. July 29 as the vessel was approaching Eagle Harbor. The Tacoma is currently anchored just outside of the harbor.

A tugboat has been called to bring the ferry into the Bainbridge terminal.

According to a shipboard announcement, another ferry is being called to the Tacoma to tow the ferry away from Bainbridge so it will not land on the beach.

A tugboat will be needed, according to an onboard ship announcement, to bring the ferry to the terminal.

Passengers have not been told when the tugboat is expected, or when the Tacoma is expected to dock in Winslow.
