It was supposed to be over.

But like an inconvenient relative or psoriasis, the wildfire smoke has crept into our neck of the woods once again. Try your best not to think about it (that’s where the smoke gets its power) and distract yourself with this weekend’s Best Bets.

On Friday, head on over to Battle Point Park and enjoy the last movie in the park of the summer. Seating for the free event begins at 8 p.m. and the movie, “La La Land,” will begin at dusk. Arrive early to get good seats.

For more information, email lorim@biparks.org or call 206-842-2306.

On Saturday, head back to Battle Point Park at 7:30 p.m. to bid farewell to the Cassini space probe at the Edwin E. Ritchie Observatory.

Cassini’s 13-year exploration of Saturn will end on Sept. 15 when it plunges into Saturn’s atmosphere. “Goodbye Cassini” will review the amazing results of this mission, and visitors will see how a local elementary school is connected to Cassini’s fate.

If the sky is clear, astronomers will be on hand with telescopes for public stargazing afterward.

Admission is free to members of the Battle Point Astronomical Association; a $2 donation is suggested for nonmembers, $5 for families.

On Sunday, head over to the Waterfront Park Community Center at 4 p.m. to enjoy the sounds of the Finisterra Trio.

This dynamic chamber music ensemble — featuring Brittany Boulding on violin, Kevin Krentz on cello and Tanya Stambuk on piano — has performed three times for the series in the past to enthusiastic audiences. Their upcoming program will include works by Shostakovich, Smetana and Hagen.

Tickets are available at brownpapertickets.com.

Then kick back, relax and dread the work week to come and join the rest of Washington in hoping this smoke blows away soon.
