William Shakespeare said it best in Sonnet 18 when he said, “Summer’s lease hath all too short a date.”
You’re absolutely right Bill, not only does summer last for only a fleeting moment but it is also bookended in Washington by long, dreary Falls and Winters. So utilize those fleeting moments and get moving while the getting’s good.
On Friday get your blood moving by taking a stroll along Winslow Way for the first Friday’s Art Walk. Downtown Winslow’s many galleries, and shops will open their doors from 6 to 8 p.m. for visitors to stop in, socialize, view the showcased items and sometimes even enjoy refreshments.
On Saturday head on over to Seabold Hall to check out blues-man Stanislove. The Second Saturday Concerts are a great place to find some of the finest live music around. Open stage performances begin at 7:30 p.m. (sign-up starts at 7), followed by the featured act. Coffee, tea, bottled water and cookies will be for sale. Admission is play or pay $8; children admitted free.

Speaking of Shakespeare, on Sunday head on over to the Bloedel Reserve and catch a performance of The Merry Wives of Windsor at 7 p.m. Embraced by audiences as one of Shakespeare’s most delightful plays, this most merry and English of comedies centers on the lovable rogue Sir John Falstaff. Hard up for money and seeking to restore his riches, he sends identical love letters to two wealthy wives. But the wooed Windsor women see through his schemes and set him up for some hilariously sweet revenge. Audience members should be prepared for a short walk between the parking area and meadow. Gates open at 6 p.m. Patrons may enter the grounds earlier by paying a reduced same-day-only rate of $5, valid after 4:30 p.m.
Patrons must be on the will call list or present their ticket(s) to Bloedel Reserve to take advantage of this offer.
Tickets, $25 for adults, and $20 for seniors, students, youth, military and teachers, may be purchased online at www.bainbridgeperformingarts.org, by phone at 206-842-8569.
After you’ve enjoyed some of Shakespeare’s finest, turn in early and get a jump start on your week to come, because your weekend is now long gone.
