The 3A brackets were posted this afternoon and Bainbridge has drawn North Thurston in the opening round of the 3A State tournament starting this Wednesday at the Bank of America Arena on the University of Washington campus in Seattle.
Game time is at 9 p.m.
“We’ve never been a real good morning team, so I’m real happy with where we’re at,” head coach Scott Orness said.
North Thurston, located in Lacey, went 8-12 in the Western Cascade Conference to finish in second place.
In the West Central Southwest Bi-District, the Rams defeated Renton and Peninsula to make state before falling to Hudson’s Bay and Port Angeles to finish sixth.
Despite their record, Orness said they won’t take them lightly.
“Every team at state is real tough,” he said. “We’ll start preparing for them Monday and take it one day at a time.”
If Bainbridge wins, they could have a rematch of their Sea-King District battle with Bellevue in the second round.
As for their Metro League rivals, Rainier Beach gets the “Egg McMuffin” game with Lakes at 9 a.m.
O’Dea plays Renton at 10:30 a.m. while Seattle Prep takes on Mt. Rainier at 2 p.m.
For Spartan fans, rooter buses will be available from the high school. It will cost $3 for a round trip.
The Review will be blogging live from the tournament while photographer Brad Camp will have a gallery of shots following the game.
