Familiar five for park board

Published 7:00 pm Wednesday, August 4, 2004

The quintet of hopefuls for the board of the proposed Bainbridge Island Metropolitan Park and Recreation District will look awfully familiar – they all serve on the present district’s board.

Barring a last-minute filing Friday afternoon, Tom Swolgaard, Ken DeWitt, Sarah “Sally” Mathews, Kirk Robinson and Dave Shorett were the only islanders to file for seats on the board, which will be formed if voters approve the metropolitan park district Sept. 14.

Filing week proved short on surprises, as most candidates in county and state legislative races had already announced their intentions weeks ago. Other filings included:

Kitsap County Commission, Position 1 (North Kitsap/Bainbridge): Chris Endresen (Democrat, Poulsbo, incumbent); Scott Henden (Republican, Poulsbo); Matthew Cleverley (Republican, Suquamish);

Kitsap County Commission, Position 2 (South Kitsap): Jan Angel (R, Port Orchard, incumbent); Charlotte Garrido (D, Olalla); Brock Jackley (D, Port Orchard);

State Senator, Dist. 23: Phil Rockefeller (D, Bainbridge Island), Doug Kitchens (R, Bremerton);

State Representative, District 23, Position 1: Frank Mahaffay (R, Bremerton) Paulette DeGard (R, Kingston), Sherry Appleton (D, Poulsbo), Dan Goebel (L, Poulsbo);

State Representative, District 23, Position 2: Beverly Woods (R, Poulsbo, incumbent); Terry Ducheane (D, Bremerton).

Also, local party operatives filed for a number of precinct officer posts. A complete list of candidates, including contact information for each, is available at the Kitsap County elections website, www.kitsapgov.com.
