On the ferry back home, Bevan Taylor hung out with the teammates who accompanied him to the state meet and relaxed.
The senior co-captain achieved his goal as he finished 25th at the 3A state cross country meet Saturday in Pasco at the Sun Willows Golf Course. Taylor recorded a time of 17:01, a second ahead of Auburn Riverside’s Tyler Pavel.
“It wasn’t the best race I could have had, but I’m definitely pleased with it,†he said.
Seattle Prep’s Max O’Donoghue-McDonald won his second straight 3A title with a stellar time of 15:32.
The Panthers finished second to North Central in Spokane for the team title.
Taylor said the field was tough.
“I ran with a lot of good kids,†he said. “But I’m happy. It’s definitely a big improvement from last year.â€
He said the weather was outstanding – “No wind, no rain, good temperature,†– but the course was a bit tough to run on.
“Running on a totally grass course is a lot harder,†he said. “It takes the energy out of you way more than (a course like) Lower Woodland.â€
Despite the conditions, he said he’s fine with where he ended up.
“It was cool to be there,†he said.
His teammate Emily Farrar finished 54th with a time of 20:54, four seconds ahead of Mercer Island’s Haley Piper.
Squalicum’s Bronwyn Crossman won the girls’ individual title.
